The second half of my architectural thesis presentation consisted of a walkthrough stepping into some of the core programs and explorations of my project.
The project consisted of exploring the potentials of the underground Cold War bunker system of Beijing that is currently being inhabited by rural migrant workers from the west who are legally unable to reside on Beijing's surface.
The project looks to combine industry with art as well as betterment for the residences which are currently 9m below ground by creating openings to the sky allowing for natural light and air into the system.
Much of the form and architectural language was based from research into traditional chinese architecture elements including: the courtyard, the emphasis of horizontal over vertical, the gable roof, as well as tradittional types of the siheyuan, hutong, and yaodong.
