@bblover8 It's called breath support! All muscles work in synergy! And that's one thing I don't agree with AussieVocalCoach about the abs. The major muscle in singing is the abdomen. The diaphragm only helps in inhalation, when it contracts. But on exhalation, which is how we sing, the abs contract and that's what you need to help support your voice!

If I concentrate I can feel it in my stomach but when Im not, its usually in my chest and thats when I I feel I cant keep breathing in. I also had the problem where after the first 5 seconds I felt like I was full bit I read your comment to breathe in slowly and that seemed to work out.
I just found your channel. Amazing. Have been practicing the breathing excercises, and this one riff, I couldn´t do in one breath, is now possible and fuller in tone. Thanks so much!

Do you have any tips for someone who has asthma? Does that affect the way a person sings? I feel sometimes that when Im singing, it's hard for my to breathe in. Is that because Im not singing from my diaphragm like I think I am?

My sister suffers from asthma and is also a singer. You need to be careful with medications as there are some that contain steroids which can harm the voice. When you breathe in where do you feel expansion? In the chest or stomach?

Very helpful Ian, I find myself being already filled up when I have to continue inhaling with the last exercises, am I inhaling too quickly?

Yes you are probably inhaling too quick. When you take that first breath in try and slow it right down so that it is silent . The air should brush past your lips and nostrils gently.
