Did he get back on and finish the course? Eventers are tough, tough, tough! nuts to crack and I wouldn't be surprised if he did.

Lucky him the fall was so slow, sill having 1300# land on you like a sack of wet cement is no fun. Far too many times a rotational fall is crippllig or deadly.

IMO the cross country jumps should have safety breakaways at around 300# of pressure. Heavy Duty zip ties perhaps?

American judges have been very hard indeed for a small amount of blood around the mouth of his horse was eliminated from the World Games in Lexington, but in France we do not oppress our horses and the horse's mouth n was not bleeding as you advance .......

This rider was eliminated during the dressage portion of Eventing WEG 2010 due to his horse having a bloody mouth......wonder if that will teach him, even if this fall did not.

@kates254 If he circled far enough away from teh fence then it would have been fine, but as you said once he's too far gone he does need to push him on,. But I must admit this is the video which has persuaded me to buy an air jacket.

The horse was getting out of hand, yes, but the way to regain that would have been to sit, put leg on, and push the horse through - that would have balanced horse and rider and regained focus. The horse actually looks like he was spooking at the fence - if you look he's putting down his front legs together to try and stop. Circling would have set the precedent that it's OK to balk at a fence, whereas moving him up would get horse's mind off the jump and given them both some confidence.

@kates254 I disagree with this, I think the horse looked out of control and if I was him I would have risked penalties by taking a circle and regaining my horses control and then attempt the jump again. We all make mistakes though and this horse looks particulary difficult however, he was very silly taking that jump with no control.

Even knowing ahead of time that both horse and rider walked away, this fall is chilling. Dear god, it's hard to even watch the video.

He was pulling back which made the horse add a stride in before takeoff... Karim should have moved the horse up instead of burying him at the base of the jump like that. That spot was visible on video 5-6 strides out!
