what is it about shane that angers christians? He isn't teaching salvation by works. he isnt preaching that we should embrace other faiths. He is just saying that we ought to obey God as we are his children. We should love the poor. He is meaning that we embrace PEOPLE not beliefs while holding on to our own exclusive truth. Unless I missed something, I don't know. But why would Christians be angry at him? Is it just because he is living radically? Or does it get theological? Thanks.

It's because the majority of modern 'Christians', don't recognize Christ anymore. Therefore, they do not recognize His truth, or His manner of working through His church. (Church as in people, not building.) It wouldn't be a surprise then, that I'm sure people of many different 'types' of Christianity, resonate with individuals 'not of their color' of Christianity. Because Christ recognizes Christ, and the Spirit of God brings the people of God together.

@AbsoluteClimate The love Paul is talking about is the love of the Father which gives everlasting life (John 3:16), not the cheap handouts of Claiborne.

@AbsoluteClimate share the hope we have with in us (1 Peter 3:15). I have never heard Claiborne refer to mans depravity, the exclusivness of Jesus, His atonement for sin, nothing on the Holy Spirit, etc. He is a liberal political activist who uses smooth talk and flattery (Romans 16:18) while name dropping Jesus to preach a false gospel of works. Paul somes it up best: "If I give all I possess to the poor and give my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing." (1 Cor 13:3)

He believes that one can "experience" God in a variety of ways apart from the Bible, in fact I question whether or not he is a universilist, b/c his mentor,Tony Campolo, says that "even if people do not convert, they are Gods people"...Jesus makes it very clear that the poor will always be among us (Matt 26:11) yes, we are to serve them, but our mission is not to make this life more endurable but to

Himself and they see a new way, a way of life that compels them to repent into a new way of life and a demonstration by the grace of God of how to LIVE. Just as Paul said, Follow me as I follow Christ. What does that look like? I would dare to say that it would look like what Shane is sharing, a life of Love. So the question is not to repent or not, yes repent, but then what do we do? I love you and do not wish to hammer at others over the net, so with this may God be with us all...

Please do not think that I am defending anyone, Shane or any of the other guys that you listed. Yes we do repent, that is part of it, but it is to repent from an old way of life. Then what do we do? Continue life and repent again, and again...That way did not work for the guys in the old testament. We needed to see how to live the life that God longed for us to live. actually the gospel Jesus preached was LOVE. John 13:34 Jesus says "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as i have loved you, that you love one another." Jesus did not abolish the law but rather fulfilled the law and gave us another one, a new commandment. Romans 13:8 Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law. The whole Bible is a Love Story of how God loves us and Jesus is God's love expressed... embrace?
