Best 'Star Trek' ever?
05:49 PM PT, Mar 11 2009

I ran into Zachary Quinto up in San Francisco at WonderCon and he was all smiles.

"I just saw the movie for the first time last night," said the "Heroes" actor who wears the pointy ears of Mr. Spock in the new "Star Trek" film. "It's pretty amazing. You have to see it..."

I want to. After interviewing "Trek" director J.J. Abrams and seeing several extended chunks of the movie over at the Paramount lot, I've ramped up my expectations pretty high. I fully expect this to join "Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan" as the very best of the "Trek" films. It may even surpass "Khan." Why? I love the humor and the action I've seen and I think Abrams has the right attitude going in. And I think the "Trek" films, as a whole, are a pretty flawed bunch.

I'm ready for a "Trek" film that is engaging, energized and stylish. I think this might be it. I'm not the only eager Enterprise watcher: The new trailer for the movie was downloaded 1.8 million times in its first 24 hours as an iTunes offering and 5 million times since it hit the merchant site on March 6. That's quite a bit of pent-up interest. Check out the action in this thing:

Here's a random prediction: "Trek" will finish as the fourth-highest grossing film of the 2009, behind the new "Harry Potter" film, Pixar's "Up" and the "Night at the Museum" sequel.

  • @Blahb27 Well for me when I saw the teaser poster I was excited but as I heard more and more spoilers, my fears of this movie being a travesty grew larger and larger. Then I saw the trailer and I knew I had to take precautions. It's the only Trek film I had not seen in the theater.

  • @Krocotto University of Colorado is NOT A Jr. College! JACKASS! Congratulations you just found what you were looking for my angry BUTTON! YOU ASS HOLE! TV is a tool, just like radio, computers, the printing press, etcetera... GROW UP! To you it's just entertainment, and that's fine, but to others who work in the industry it is a means to influence the world to their point of view! Ever ask a Media student why he wants to be a reporter or writer? The answer is almost always "To change the world."

  • this is definitely the worst star trek movie i ever saw,the most unbelievable thing about it is it is actually this bad, what the hell did they do to the enterprise? once so fine with her beautiful photon torpedoes and elegant phasers.plus the fact the kirk in this movie gets in the captains chair just by chance.iam not a trekkie but i can understand their disappointment with this it's well justified.

  • @Krocotto PS. Your rant on books was also covered in Star Trek the episode’s name is "Court-martial." I love Books and yes it is a crime that books are being erased from history because no one is reading them but 90% of those books are entertainment "Made for making MONEY!" You don't mind when classic film is destroyed but you go ballistic when classic literature does. Can you say H--Y--P--O--C--R--I—T--E? I think you can. I'm done! Respond if you must but this page is yours. Good bye.

  • @Krocotto You know what? I give up. You are just too dense and too much of a jerk to carry on this conversation any more. You win! The world revolves around only your point of view and I’m just a “Stupid” college/life in the streets/self educated conservative who trust people who “lie all the time” even when they say “I---am---Lying”. After all they must be trying to make money by saying that they are writing morality tales, even though they loose audiences by saying that. BY! BY!

  • @Krocotto "That's not what I'm saying at all!" (Shatner SNL) You make me think of those fictional fans in that skit. If it does not fit into your little world you get all confused and jump to conclusions. I'm not into "PC", but Hollywood is! You might try watching the news when actors, writers, directors, and TV show creators speak on it from time to time. Hollywood is the most hypocritical industry of all time. They hate profit but they set out to make it.
