forgive my ignorance, but...Glass Pack?!?
who did it for you? I've also considered replacing the resonance chamber with a straight through pipe.... any ideas?

a glass pack is just a small bulb packed with fibreglass. Do a google image search for 'glass pack', the first image shows exactly how it's constructed. Lots of people replace the resonator with a straight through pipe, but it drones at freeway speeds and most of my driving is freeway. I had it done at Mettam's Muffers in Morely, but any exhaust shop can do it for you. There's a bit thread about exhaust de-resonating on the fordxr5turbo forums, have a look there for more info.

how much difference does a de-res exhaust make? sound wise? performance wise?

performance-wise, nil. Sound wise, it's the best thing besides replacing the exhaust. I've had the resonator replaced with a glass pack, so it's still resonated somewhat but nowhere near as much as stock. The glass pack helps eliminate drone at highway speeds and removes the raspy edge from the sound. If you have a look at the skidpan video I've got up you can hear the exhaust from the outside. Glass pack was $80, labour was $40. Can't beat it for the price.

it was taken with a canon ixus stuck onto the turbo gauge pod with UHU Tac. I've tried wedging it under the passenger headrest but all you hear is the damn seatbelt rattle!
