I would agree that civilizations have failed over the centuries when freeloading jackals begin to suck on their tender underbelly
And I don't believe in handouts: If you give a man a dole, you rob him of his destiny
However, I think within the untapped spirit of humanity are the means to create enough resources to survive
On the other hand, I agree with you somewhat, believing that humanity lacks the mental resolve to live within its means
-
well i think with a little research on your part you will see very easily why 2/3 of the human population has to be eliminated in order for there to be any chance for mankind to survive, are you familiar with the term GREEN REVELUTION ,if not it will go a long way i explaining my comment on human population .you see for all of mans technological genius we can't get around the fact that we have to eat in order to live.

outof gas
With my greatest imagination, I can't understand how anything I said would suppose that 2/3rds of the world population be eliminated
Can you articulate a little better on how you come up with your proposal of mass genocide?
-
sugarpuddin88, here's the problem with your proposed scenario,in order for it to work we would have to eliminate at least TWO THIRDS of the worlds population, and totally rethink our relationship with this earth and each other, unfortunately that's not going to happen so in a nut shell "WE" "ARE" "SREWED"

Outofgas
Supposed instead of putting 3 trillion dollars into killing over one million innocent Iraqis, 500,000 of which who were children whose only crime was being born in the wrong place at the wrong time, and putting that into Battery Development & enzymes that convert water into hydrogen & oxygen gas?
Do you think the world would be any better off under my proposed scenario?
-
all of these so called alternative sources of energy work very well on a small scale but when you take a good look at the amounts of just gas for auto mobile alone we talking about, roughly one hundred and forty two "BILLION" gallons a year that's being consumed in the U.S. alone. lets not even talk about, Diesel, and JET FUEL.bottom line we have a problem that there are no simple solutions to.

Storage is a problem, though not a great problem; but it is no more volatile than gasoline, (yet requires more pressure)
Yes! More money needs to go into PEM fuel cell development too
But sadly, the US Government has cut all scientific spending, year after year after year after year....
The US was supposed to have a bigger proton collier than Europe; placed in Dallas
The Gov killed it during the 11th hour
America is a bankrupt world bully

Well, production of hydrogen is not the only problem to overcome...storage is a HUGE problem, as well as the cost and longevity of the fuel cells.
One thing which looks promising (as per VA Tech) is the use of a carrier such as starch, which would be stored on a vehicle, and used to produce hydrogen as its needed (instead of storing the hydrogen itself).
My point is that, like the flying car (there were several), even if it's technically possible, it might not be commercially feasible.
-
One of the inherent problems with VA Tech's group was as O is liberated, the enzyme becomes less efficient; they solved it with PEMs & new genetics
As I mentioned previously: VA Tech's group has a workable vehicle
However, there are so MANY groups out there with great success; so "YES", why don't you look some of it up yourself?
MIT uses solar to crack water molecules into gas. Those gases would be stored and used later in a fuel cell to make electricity when the sun is not shining
-
Jeez, thank you. Something I can look up. :)
"Hydrogenases in certain organisms such as green algae and cyanobacteria may one day be responsible for producing H2 from sunlight"
The energy source for splitting the water is sunlight (through the algae), which was what I've been asking for quite some time.
Even if it's been done in a research environment, it's a big difference before it becomes commercial. Look at nuclear fusion for electrical production, for example. Technical problems abound
America still refuses to support the production of Hydrogen
Despite the huge development in enzymes that convert water into hydrogen, (and oxygen)
REASON: In America, corporations & other elite interests can legally bribe politicians!

I don't think you understand that petroleum is a highly fungible commodity that is traded on the world market. this means if the "fucking americans" as you so immaturely put it, don't buy the units of petroleum, then someone else will. either way, those "terrorist" get the money no matter what.
Grow up, read a book, and log off the internet, because it's not making you smarter.
