  • I'm glad my father listened to Genesis throughout my life. He still does that, but now I really appreciate it. I prefer Genesis above almost all bands from nowadays.

  • Is this about a guy that just drinks to find comfort in his problems and shit.

  • Great version of this song :) Got me a copy of the BBC sessions of 1972 in my collection :) What I need now is the BBC sessions of Watcher of the skies and Get em out by friday, oh and of course the sessions 1970 and than my life will be complete :)

  • ....and it should have a track on Foxtrot, Timetable won somehow.

  • @JHollowayNetwork Actually, "IKWIL" was the hit, while this was the lowly, underrated B-side. Such a pity, too, because this is so full of win!

  • it did not become A Hit Until 1973, When I Know What I Like (In Your Wardrobe) became a B-Side to That.

  • 0:10 to 0:25 expesses the deep depression that the character is in needing the comfort of wine, IMO.

  • Need to listen to this a few more times but I still like the Belgium version.

    Both versions magical though.

How we continue to listen to these timeless classics 40 years later and still sound great.

Hi my most treasured possesion is a first cut copy of Twilight Alehouse, in the early 70s there was an old pub in Hanley that had this on the jukebox, every Saturday I would do my shopping at Tesco and then on my way home stop at the pub have a pint and listen to this track on the jukebox....saw it performed live too several times I was born at the best time possible for wonderful music and incredible bands!

  • This song kicks ass more than any bs pop ballad that Phil Collins had as the "leader" of Genesis in the 80s.
