Where is this series? Why has Universal been sitting on it for all these years? Is there someone they hate forever that they would have to pay if it was rerun? Where are the DVD's? Please put this one on RTV. I'd like to see it again.

  • Please, please do post entire episodes with the opening and ending credits. I really enjoyed watching The Name of the Game and always hoped that ONE episode they would show ALL THREE (four with Susan St. James) characters interacting in the SAME episode.

Come to think of it -- wasn't there an episode where the other TWO did cameos consulting with Tony F's character? It was toward the end of the run of the series!!

    Settummanque!

  • I will be hapy to post entire episodes of any show that you see here if at least ten unique posters request it.

There were episodes where Glenn interacted with the others. But obviously the idea was that each character had his own film unit and that way three episodes could be filming at the same time. This would allow the actors more time during the year to do other projects as well while still under contract to Universal.

  • Thanks for posting this. I hadn't seen the ending here before.

  • Glad you enjoyed it. Perhaps there will be more if enough interest is indicated by those leaving comments.

  • These are the closing credits from one of the last episodes of the series, "Appointment in Palermo" [February 26, 1971].

  • Poor episodes like this one is why NBC cancelled its appointment with The Name Of The Game!

  • These days, there seem to be NO memorable music themes for tv shows. Most "music" heard these days is just tones generated by a synthesiser in a crude attempt to ape the on-screen action. Then you have tv stations doing their voice-overs above the music or, worse-still, removing the music, cutting half the screen and running promos for upcoming programs. There was a time when a show's music theme mattered..when it added an aura to the program itself. Sadly these days are long gone.

  • RIP Gene Barry

  • Any possibility of this show ever being issued on DVD (hopefully in 'Region 0' - All Regions format) ?

Maybe the three seasons could form box sets ? - I would add the 1966 pilot TV Movie: 'Fame is The Name of The Game' starring Tony Franciosa, as a 'Bonus' to the final third season as TF only was in 3 episodes so that would 'feature' him more in the last box set.

They need to restore the originally 'Roatating' opening graphic too, putting up the Featured Actor in that episode first

  • @settummanque The three Leads NEVER all appear together - GB cameos in 4 first season episodes each of RS & TF, while TF cameos in one GB first season episode 'The Taker'

Robert Culp (twice), Peter Falk, Robert Wagner, Darren McGavin, & Vera Miles were all 'Guest Leads' plus Cliff Potts (as 'Potter') did one guest lead in 'Pineapple Rose' - anyone know who was lead in 'Why I Blew up Dakota' ? - otherwise it was alternately TF /GB / RS as Lead Actors in the episodes

  • Chuck, what we really need to see is this type of programming return to network TV today. I am for one, sick and tired of "dorky" immature scripts that insult my intelligence. THE NAME OF THE GAME and other shows like it represent a time and era when people valued intelligence and maturity, both which are missing in today's TV programs.

  • I'd like to see entire episodes of this show. Please post if you can! This series is one of those rare gems not found or talked about any more.

  • The Name Of the game-I Spy-!!!!Themes that rock!

  • I'm screwing with the Queens english!I apologize! The shows I'm talking about mean a whole lot to me-can anyone agree-????Mr.Zeeto>

  • @Chuckcollins Perfect postThe Name of the Game hsd a good Lyric-but so did I Spy's Lryic...Had!

  • @Retroscope200X That was NOT his directorial debut, as Rod Serling fans will testify (see the "Eyes" segment of the "Night Gallery" pilot).

  • @Billo912: I always thought it was cool that they got to pick their own producers!

  • @recordman64

Yeah it seems the impression all three leads DID feature together once has gone round - but they never did - Stack & Franciosa never meet onscreen (only the three stars ARE seen together in publicity photos...all smiling away & looking great friends ! - this may be why people believe they DID appear together ?)

Different production teams handled the three stars thus filming demands stopped them meeting...

....pity they NEVER did one two part story together tho'...

  • @us71

Peter Falk only subbed for TF once as Reporter Lewis Corbett in 'A Sister From Napoli' (season three)

Robert Wagner as Reporter David Corey in 'The Man Who Killed A Ghost'

Robert Culp (twice) as Reporter Paul Tyler in 'Cynthia is Alive and Living in Avalon' & 'Little Bear Died Running' ....were the other subs for TF in the final season.

  • @Billo912 : OK...I guess the TV Guide listing was incorrect...or wherever I read that info.

  • @recordman64

'An Agent For The Plaintiff' (set in London) with UK Guest Star Honor Blackman (of 'The Avengers' & 'Goldfinger' fame) was a 'Gene Barry' episode - only GB appeared in that episode.

  • @settummanque All three Leads NEVER appeared together in 'Name of The Game'

Gene Barry did cameos in four of both of his co-stars episodes in season one Tony Franciosa cameos in one GB episode ('The Taker')

Robert Stack & Tony Franciosa never appear together, but Stack's character Dan Farrell IS mentioned in the TF episode 'Collector's Edition' (in which GB cameos) - Peggy Maxwell phones him as, with GB permission, TF wants to 'borrow' his 'CRIME' magazine for the week...!

  • Add my name to those requesting a full episode.

  • @chuckcollins Add me to the list who want to see a full episode! I've never seen one, only short clips.

  • I would love to see at least a couple episodes from each of the main characters.

  • @chuckcollins I'd love to see whole episodes-especially the one where they all interact!

  • @Retroscope200X This eps LA 2017 is now on my ch. the whole ep!

  • @settummanque The whole eps of the name of the game is on my ch...watch it before it is gone..

  • @Retroscope200X The whole movie is on my ch. The Name of the Game!

  • This sounds like the cheap, lounge-singer, Vegas version. If they wanted it to be that different, they would have been better off with something entirely different. I'm surprise Dave Grusin would have signed off on airing this version.

  • My sentiments exactly chuckcollins! I miss these marvelous actors, terrific screenwriters, directors, and musical composers of past generations. Today, there just isn't the caliber of talent across all genres of entertainment.

  • If NOTG was released on DVD, they would have A LOT of residuals to pay. From my understanding, a show like this, which had a big budget would also have to pay guest stars, different composers, etc. Also, there has to be negoitations between the estates of Barry, Stack and Fransicosa It is going to take them a while to sort everything out and when they do, I think the DVD's will be released.

  • Have not seen this show since the 70's Reruns were shown around midnight for some time here in los angeles. I remember coming home late from work and I'd watch it. Some of them were really good, but with a cast like this how could it ever be bad ?
