Racist? No way. In 1925 this was a real healing & understanding message. Who had the fine meal to offer to Felix in gratitude? Who was the man of goodwill & fair play? The share cropper. Felix is "allowed" to bring us in & show the humanity of this good man of meager means. This is beautiful ... I'm a true fan of the great Otto Messmer, and this makes me love him even more.

Well, the black guy is black, and he is a cartoon. Its kind of hard to get very upset about this. Seems to me the only difference between him and a white cartoon fellow is just the color.

People need to take their 21st century politically correct b.s. and get the hell outta here. The rest of us will enjoy a good old fashioned cartoon!

the heck this guys talk about all i see is black & white how can u tell wich character is blck and wich is white? ass..
-
I love classic felix!

This was the way blacks were drawn back then...and its just as fancy as white people. True racism would have been to make cartoons for black and white people separately.

Racist? Racism is post 1966, and is a lot "sicker" than the 1925 prejudice and segragation. Segragation was equal but separate. Black baseball teams, black movie production companies (with GREAT movies), black marketing icons like Aunt Jemima. My favorite doll as a child was a flip rag doll with Betty Crocker on one end and Aunt Jemima on the other. And Felix - Man, he's just a cool cat!

he has not got huge lips he is a clown... it is make up why do u think he took of the hair and struggled with the beard? i am not tryin to be rude by the way

I don't like how people get uptight about "racist" character designs. Cartoonists always exaggerate features in the human figure. A common trait for African-Americans are that they have large lips, so the cartoon exaggerates that feature. It's not meant to offend anyone, it's meant to be funny.
-
I love it. People need to stop being so uptight. Thanks for posting this.
-
Well people may deem it racist because of the sterotypical notion that black peoples hair resemble cotton.

this is refering to the deep south, still the same !
this is a really great (rare?) cartoon!!!!

That's not racist, mate... we all know that Felix is normally pretty much of a gangsta, but here he is actually kinda nice to the black guy... I've seen Felix seriously fuck up people, that cat don't make many friends - the ol' chap can be glad to be among 'em. Additionally, probably Felix is black himself, non?
