Naomi Klein's June 5, 2008 speech at the National Conference for Media Reform was first posted by STIMULATOR/submedia.tv -

It is incomplete but what we have here is compelling and stirring enough.

The netroots progressive community will get a real shot in the arm to do more than just stand in cheering crowds of political supporters... and really take "New Deal" style action as a personal responsibility.

Klein lays out how the grass roots activists of the great depression figured out the cause, isolated the bad actors, and pressured government itself to be report as activists for the majority of Americans. That generation rejected the Laissez-faire capitalism that came back under Reagan.

Will we see that same cause for our crises today? Will we act as powerfully to demand a return to an egalitarian society? Can we take on Corporate America?

Obama's presidency is not enough... he must be pressured to reject the Wall Street Power that even now seeks to contain him.

  • This dunce sounds like Jim Jones to me. Only liberals would drink that Kool aid.

  • @hawkermustang. Ok mr. common sense, I gave you a number of chances to explain yourself & you behave like a troll. We believe in democracy. You appear to be against it. You suck the king's c@ck.-fine. We don't.

I'm not keeping your comments on my page as they don't appear to be going anywhere. Terror is an emotion. There is no war, only Bush's military action on behalf of big business. It's all for money buddy. Progressives are the defenders of democracy. You are serving the wrong side. Bye.

I was the voice that yelled out "Obama funds the war"

the Free Press are shameless Democratic apologists and should be ashamed of themselves.

I have a cable show "Lies and Omissions of Corporate Media" in Minneapolis..

This will appear on my next show.

  • Social Democracy is the future. That is where this nation is going. Don't like it? Take your fat pasty christian racists to Texas... buy Baja from Mexico & start your own "top down" authoritarian nation. Be ruled. You conservatards love that stuff. Our nation is moving to Social Democracy. Get with it or get out. We the people don't want your ignorant servitude of Halliburton anymore.

  • Your education is not evident either, and your lack of common sense is glaring. This Klein dummy thinks Obama is not liberal enough? He was the most liberal senator. Does she want Hugo Chaves as president? His country is a wreck. Crises, crises, capitalism did not cause any crises, big government and liberal/socialist polices have caused the mess. A green new deal? This green crap is just a socialist scam. Check out climategate. Go live in Cuba, everyone is equally miserable there!

  • Your education is not evident in your comment. And why are you afraid to define your terms?

  • Agreed. That was a disgusting case. Also, my views have changed somewhat since 11 months ago and I think that property "rights" over land are more complicated than I did previously.

That said, I think corporations are demonized too much and I still think Klein is an idiot (or at least dishonest).

  • The former. The United Fruit Co. example is perfect and rampant as evidenced by Ms. Klein's books.

  • "They are embedded in a country that uses ITS weapons and force on their behalf." I'm not entirely sure what you are referring to. If you are referring to military intervention on behalf of these corporations, like the US did in Guatemala (in part) for the United Fruit Company, then I agree that such behavior is inexcusable. If you mean the government uses its force to prevent people from stealing from corporations, that is just.

  • Lmao... yes... but only if Obama has a secret time Machine. This was the Reagan/Gingrich fetish with unregulated Lessez Faire capitalism via lil ol Milton Friedman. Friedmanism failed. Now we 70% of the nation are putting you 14% in the time out chair. We'll get things working. You're welcome.

  • Obama lied and the economy died.
