Driving on Highway 237 on October 12, 2008, Malinda Martinez was on her way to her mothers house to pick up her 4-year-old son. Suddenly, a Ford SUV swerved into another car and rolled several times, coming to rest on its roof in the center divide. Unlike other drivers, Malinda immediately stopped her car and ran across the median to help.
American Red Cross Silicon Valley Chapter's 3rd Annual Real Heroes Breakfast on May 8, 2008 recognized acts of heroism by 9 local residents who were nominated by the public and selected by a group of community leaders because they went above and beyond the call of duty to exhibit a true act of selflessness, and their heroic acts embody the principles and ideals of the Red Cross humanitarian mission.
