My legs jerk uncontrollably when I'm trying to sleep. The kicking lasts 2-6 hours a night and keeps me from falling asleep. The movement is involuntary. This video is edited from 2 hours of trying to sleep one night.

The movements are similar but different from Restless Leg (RLS) and Periodic Limb Movements (PLMS). I don't have uncomfortable sensations and move my legs intentionally. And I'm awake and don't have the typical movement patterns or intervals of PLMS.

I've dealt with this for 15 years, seen a lot of MD's, and tried many different meds. 5 years ago, I was diagnosed with a variation of RLS called "Nocturnal Quiescegenic Dyskinesia" by the RLS Clinic at John Hopkins. There's additional information about it at www.kicking-legs.com Do other people have this?

  • @gmainspokane

I know about the torture you are describing.

I won't take drugs for my jerks and RLS but the thing that seems to help the most is folding both legs under my seat while lying on my back , then arching my back a bit to stretch the quads. Sometimes it takes 4 or 5 tries when my hamstring cramps. Sometimes I fall asleep like that and wake up with numb legs but at least I can get to sleep. If that doesn't work, I sometimes walk in bare feet on a cold floor or outdoors.

  • @gmainspokane only thing that really works 100% is addictive Opioids.

  • I wake up every night having to put my blankets back on. Kicked them off (all three of them). Doctor prescribed me some pills that have done nothing. It sucks. I wake up more tired than I am at night.

  • My husband just went downstairs again because his legs are kicking so much. This is a frequent event even with requip at massive doses. Medication has also had the weird side effect noted by others; a craving to gamble. I just don't know how to help him, and Dr. have no suggestions. Anyone found a successful treatment outcome?

  • I get that in my legs (usually only right leg) and my spine. I find that the more tired I let myself get, the worse it gets. If I go to bed early, before I get too tired, it's not as bad.
