i'm disgusted, because i actually come from those fanatics. that is my cultural background. i reject it because 1) religions don't reflect supernatural realities, they reflect expressions of human psychology and imagination at various points in time. and 2) when religions are used to rationalize ethnic or social abuse, they need to be challenged.

it seems to be you who haven't read the torah. the book is basically a rationalization for ethnic cleansing & genocide, history is written by the conquerers and the torah is the narrative of the violent internal patriarchal conquest of ancient hebrew culture, and once in the control of warrior patriarchs, its subsequent invasion & conquest of some of the choice cities & land in the region. it's an ancient barbaric narrative. judaism, in the sense of the practice of the religion is a barbaric, old patriarchal cult, and in its current practice it's a group ocd (obsessive compulsive disorder) where people go through the day frantically engaging in non-stop meaningless rules & rituals hoping that if they do, then everything will be ok... it's meaningless, tedious, and negative in that it cuts them off from contact with other people, but, some people need that sort of experience to feel that their lives have meaning...

i have no idea what you're trying to say here, but, i know all about judaism. i'm an ex-orthodox jew, was raised in the religion/culture, and therefore have a pretty knowledgeable critique of the whole thing...

humanism is a great thing, and religious jews do try to focus on the humanistic aspects of the cult (all religions are cults). but, if you just read the torah without hiding behind layers of interpretations, as religious jews do, to try to twist what it says into something meaningful -
