The Hudson-DeLange Orchestra's 1936 Brunswick recording of "Organ Grinder's Swing," heard on my Sparton 8-57 console, ca. 1948.

This is kind of an experiment - it is my first video upload. What do you think?

  • AWESOME SOUND!!!

  • Quite a rarity and a goodie - thanks for posting!

  • Thanks for posting this, I know this song because of a Popeye episode from the '30s of the same name. My 4 year old was watching a cartoon today that had this song and it reminded me of the Popeye cartoon I saw many years ago. It's been many years since I've seen and heard a 78, this is great!

  • What do i think?

words fail but the feel...o ooh ohhoo...

what an absolute gem...i'll play it again.

    bliss to you

  • I am sure glad you put the rare Hudson-DeLange Orchestra on youtube: a fun rarity for us swing fans to hear!

    Thanks, mlaprarie!

  • I like this music and this kind of discs too much!!

  • We play this tune in my big band. fun to hear the original. Good quality too. Thanks for posting!

  • Pass one window, tid-e-o, pass two windows, tid-e-o, pass three windows, etc. Used to sing this as a child (I guess that dates me). Did the Hudson-DeLange arrangement come from that little song?

Thanks for sharing the history of it. I didn't think any jazz/swing arrangements of it went back further than Jimmy Smith's version.

  • didn't bent fabric do a version of organ grinder's swing?

of course, if not, that's wikipedia for you...

  • hudson -delange was great.
