A friend of mine has been growing vegetables in his garden for a couple of years and is rather good at it. He showed me round his patch, which was quite inspiring and he gave me some good tips too.

  • tell your friend that you need to have corn close together in pairs... you need a bunch because they cross pollinate by the wind blowing the pollen around.

  • Slugs actually prefer dead stuff so put down some leaf mulch and they will est it instead of your plant. I made it work with sea weed too.

  • u stepped on his carrots... u bastard

  • Two quick points

    1. never plant mint in an open border as it is super invasive, grow your mint in a pot or small closed in border.

    2. slugs hate having to go over gritty sufaces so one thing you can do is sprinkle gritty sand around your plants and save your egg shells then crush them up and sprinkle them around the base of your plants as slugs hate them as well.

  • Organic Plant Protection, a book from Rodale press lists organic technique's for helping your garden grow and be protected for almost everything. A mulch of oak leaves, tobacco stem meal, or wormwood tea in a border around your plants will repel slugs. The best way is as another person commented: saucers of stale beer by drawing them in and they drown. Flour can be added to make a sticky mixture to make sure they stay and die. Lovely garden.

  • Nice garden Rob

  • a good way to get rid of slugs an snails is if you got some beer that has gone flat, leave it in a large glass in the garden overnight.the beer attracts the slugs and when they climb into the glass they drown in the beer.

  • a wonderful little patch for veggies. Ive never tried peas, due to the heat here! Nice share!

  • put a sign up saying all slugs will be shot survivors will be shot again...hehehe they'll run then

  • very nice m8......growin my own garden at the moment..just remember to water in the evening and morning...
