I believe that the founders of this country had a different stance. Go to Google and type in "God and our American Presidents...". It should be the first link.

I am not implying that at all. I am in favor of people having the right to express their religion as long as it is not on public land. wearing a cross necklace is fine because it is that persons body and they should be able to wear what they want. private people should be able to promote religion the government should not

It is saying that congress shall pass no law favoring the establishment of a religion. It does not mean that people cannot put up their own beliefs in public. Are you going to sue someone for wearing a cross necklace in public? Because that is exactly what you are implying. Get over it. The First Amendment says nothing like what you seem to think it does.

Now you are making up your own amendment. It says they shall pass no law. Give that a clue.
For the record, atheists seem to hate it when Christians call atheism a religion. And the amendment says freedom of religion. So technically the amendment says nothing about atheists having the freedom to be atheists. Be grateful that people don't interpret THAT the wrong way.
Stop making up your own amendments.

that means the government shall not take sides in matters of religion. it cannot promote (displays on public property) or prohibit(displays on private property) a government that dose not take sides in religion supports not only the state but the Church as well. I am in favor of a government that dose not take sides in religion matters and you should too.

No... It does not say that 'we' should not favor one religion over another. It says that CONGRESS shall **pass no law*** favoring the establishment of a religion. In no way does that say people cannot practice their beliefs in public. Right after that part it even says "or prohibiting the free exercise thereof".

I recall the FFRF suing a city for having a nativity scene up. However, it was the towns people who put it up to begin with.
Where in the first Amendment does it mention anything about separation of church and state?

most Atheists I know just don't want religion out of the public square at the same time allowing freedom of religion. for example a nativity display dose not belong on public ground but is fine in front of a church or on private property. and thats where I agree with them. calling it a holiday tree dose not take Christmas away from anybody

I find it offensive because they are trying to take the idea of Christmas away.
Christmas only has Pagan origins for tradition. I know people of Judaism, Hinduism, Islam, and even a Wiccan who ALL call a Christmas tree a Christmas tree. They do not get offended by the term. Its more like some of these atheists are just a bunch of bigots.
