Review of the Osprey 10-40x50mm Riflescope mounted on a DPMS LR308.
I purchased this scope as a temporary solution because I was on a budget and could not afford what I really wanted... a Nightforce 12-42x56mm scope. I didn't expect much in the way of performance, build quality or durability. I mean how could a $150 scope compare in any way, shape or form to a $1,300 scope? Add to that the horror stories I read about Osprey and I was a little concerned.
To my great surprise, my fears were not realized and in fact, I was very pleased and by how this scope performs. The only negative was the rings that were included. They were garbage in my experience -- the scope could not be zeroed because there was not enough windage adjustment to even come close. I tossed them aside and installed Leupold rings instead. Problem fixed. Bottom line is that this scope holds its zero, is very clear up until about 38x, then gets a little blurry (but is still very usable at 40x). It survived 700+ rounds of 308 ammo and is still going strong. For $150 (at the time of this video) it comes with an awful lot of features and it functions really well!
Someday I will get my Nightforce scope (and I'll review it as well), but until then... I am very happy with this Osprey scope!!!
The Osprey 10-40x56mm scope specs are:
• Huge 10-40X magnification
• Fully multi-coated optics for maximum light transmission
• 15 1/2" l.ength, weight 36 3/5 ozs.
• 30 mm tube
• 50 mm objective provides plenty of view
• F.O.V. @ 100 yds. is 9.8' at 10X, 2.7' at 40X
• 3-3 1/2" eye relief
• Side parallax adjustment
• 1/8" M.O.A. windage / elevation adjustment
• Lock-down finger-adjustable target turrets
• Illuminated glass-etched reticle with 11 brightness settings
While I was doing this review, I decided to include some other mods, which include: Timney AR-10 Drop-in trigger, CAA ARS Sharp Shooting Stock, Harris bi-pod and more.

What scope rings did you use? Height from picatinny rail to top of scope mount if possible?
thank you ahead of time!

As far as budget scopes go, did you consider any others before deciding on the Osprey? Also curious what stock you have on this rifle, magpul?

@clutchcrazy888 - Sure, I looked at others like NCStar, but Osprey was the only one that had 1-40x56. The stock is from CAA.

@AmendmentNo2 I bought this same scope after your review and am having a "freespin" problem on the turrets. For both side and top turrets, when I spin them, they appear to "freespin" with audible clicks for about 5 clicks at which point it feels like it "engages" and then is more difficult to turn. By difficult, I mean normal, compared to other scopes. Does (or did) yours do this? Your response would be appreciated.

@1bigmig2 - I have never had any problems with te turrets at all, the scope functions pretty much like any other I have in that respect. Have you called the distributor where you got it from?
