The main problem with No Child Left Behind as the late Sen Paul Wellstone said is that it was full of Unfunded Mandates. Requiring States and School Districts to increase their Education Standards without providing the resources to accomplish it.

Ha .. washington DC kids getting brainwashed.. 1 in 30 people in DC have HIV-aids, and all in DC live with the highest crime rates anywhere in the country. Educated to deal crack, educated to not know anything about how corrupt your government is, educated to be a slave to your masters, 'educated' to be in the dark and remain slaves to the bankers ultimately that enslave you. Educated to be a fool for the war machine, a slave to television, and brainwashed by it all.

Yeah, and I bet you came up through the same school system that you now condemn. Systems come and system go. Why don't you use your time and energy creating a better world instead of venting out your frustrations against the system behind some computer screen (that is also part of the system by the way).

You assume that because I have been placed in the school system (by a higher power) to reach young people, that I am perpetuating "the system." I fooled you too. Listen. Sometimes you must go in the belly of the beast to reach and teach the people (as opposed to venting from afar). You must go down in the valley. And if you really gave a damn, you would be down in the valley trying to save the kids from those vices that you speak of.

My friend, even knowledge has limitations: it must be revealed at the proper time and in the proper context.
No system is all bad or all good. If so, name one. On a deeper level the real battle is unseen. You can focus on the "corrupt" system if you want to. You may one day even overthrow it. But what usually happens is that another more corrupt system just replaces the old one.

And by the way, unless you know the kids in Washington DC, you should shut your mouth. You seem to be guided by statistics that the "corrupt" system has fed you and you underestimate and try to marginalize the resilience of those kids. There was a corrupt system that was a part of this countries history called slavery. And as oppressive and corrupt as that system was, the descendants of those slaves are still here pushing, even after 400 years of oppression. You got a lot to learn.
