John Wayne starred in the movie "Jet Pilot", which featured this aircraft. This airplane awakened the desire in me to be a pilot at the young age of 6! Twenty one (21) years later with the support and encouragement of family and friends, I became one!
Dreams really do come true!

  • There is a paragraph that describes he and his wing man flying at night and all you see is the blinking lights but if something happens you are on your own all you can do is watch.

  • Thank you for your comment! Stranger To The Ground is one of my favorite books, also Wings!

  • This is the one on display at Travis AFB, right?

  • sorry... wings...

  • There was one outside my dorm in Lackland AFB, I was in basic for aircraft mechanic, I would often look at it from our window just after lights out. Un sundays, I would sit under one of his wongs and read Stranger to the ground, the book where Richard Bach describes in detail, what is like to fly it...

    Great memories...

  • hehe yer cool looking plane although ur wondering how it flew or rather how it actualy failed badly.

reason i looked it up was i just read some article about it in the news paper and they crashed quite often due to feul or navigational failure. id say ur dad is a true hero for flying it and survive it:)

  • what john wayne movie did you see it in?!!?!?

  • The scenes I remember from Jet Pilot featured F-86s and a T-33. Don't remember seeing an F-84...
