oh hey world, it gets better.

*****WHAT IS THIS ALL ABOUT?******

From Dan Savage's column about Billy Lucas:

"Billy Lucas was just 15 when he hanged himself in a barn on his grandmother's property. He reportedly endured intense bullying at the hands of his classmates—classmates who called him a fag and told him to kill himself. His mother found his body.... I wish I could have talked to this kid for five minutes. I wish I could have told Billy that it gets better. I wish I could have told him that, however bad things were, however isolated and alone he was, it gets better.

"But gay adults aren't allowed to talk to these kids. Schools and churches don't bring us in to talk to teenagers who are being bullied. Many of these kids have homophobic parents who believe that they can prevent their gay children from growing up to be gay—or from ever coming out—by depriving them of information, resources, and positive role models.

"Why are we waiting for permission to talk to these kids? We have the ability to talk directly to them right now. We don't have to wait for permission to let them know that it gets better. We can reach these kids."

  • I wanted to thank you for showing that it can get better. It's one thing to see someone like Ellen say this, but for me watching this video of a girl only 3 years older than me and someone who is on a path like mine actually hit closer to home for me. So thank you

  • Life is the fucking best!

  • @scubaskyd They don't discriminate, and they surely aren't racist. They were created because they were discriminated against, so it gave them a fair chance to actually do something with their life and be someone.

  • @IsupportBP Well I bet if you applied they'd give you a fair chance. Us gays, we don't discriminate against other people of religion or minorities. The only reason I wouldn't hire you is because you discriminate against gays. So what if gays have their own olympic games? There's the olympics that doesn't descriminate against everyone. I'm not racist, believe me. But what about scholarships that are only awarded to people of color? or colleges that only accept african americans or other colors?

  • @scubaskyd discrimination, hu? gays/lesbians have bars and Olympic Games for gays and lesbians ONLY. I want to work in a gay bar, as a christian str8 woman u think i have any possibility to get a job there? the lesbian/gay Olympic Games will allow me to participate? Im a good runner but... Im str8 and christian. Fuck off

  • Shoot, now I need a sex change... Keep doing what you're doing Weiss! You are awesome!

  • this is a great video, and to everyone whos gay, it gets better. when you find that right person it gets a million times better and I wouldnt want it any other way

  • @IsupportBP what is wrong with you? If someone doesn't support gay rights, they still don't have to discriminate on gays... If it has nothing to do with you, you can fuck off. Oh, and us lesbians, we don't go around toting our gayness to the world. We're proud of who we are, we love who we are. Anti-discrimination laws are being created so we can actually be treated like an american citizen, like an actual human being. So fuck off, and I'll see you in hell.

  • I intend to high-five you

  • @MrBric12 I really would, but I mustn't waste my time on ignorant people like yourself, which is hypocritical since I'm replying to your comment, but I feel that I must stand up for others that are like me. Even if I was not gay, I think that your sexual orientation makes you no more or less of a person. Perhaps with time, people will learn to accept others for who they are and look past these sort of things.
