The MacLean Family from Windsor, ON faces the Goderich tornado Aug.21, 2011

We had just done the nature trail over the Maitland River, drove down to the salt mine, came back up, went across and down to the beautiful lake front park. We sat and watched as a big black clout out on the horizon got closer and closer. At first it just seemed like heavy rain coming but then we realized that the clouds were moving in 2 different directions. It very quickly came ashore. Our car was being pushed from both sides. Baseball sized hail, sand, tree branches, all kinds of debris pelted our car heavily. Our car is actually covered in thousands of dents and small holes. We are very lucky our windows held out. Our vehicle is badly damaged but we are all ok!

Probably not sure where to go or what to do, as we were. When we took the video we weren't really panicking yet. We didn't know really what it was. Now, after watching the weather channel, we found out it was a rain-wrapped funnel cloud. To us, at that point, it just looked like some kind of fast moving rain cloud coming ashore. Then, as it moved towards us, the wind started, and hail and all the debris flying into our car. It came ashore rather silently.

That's the only road to town from the beach...they were pretty much stuck there until it passed....
