More and more we are finding that nothing is more expensive than "free". What does "free education" really mean?

At their inception, Californias public higher education was fully funded by the state. Meaning those without the means were able to get a higher education and give back to the community that gave to them. Without access to this educational outlet, those who could not otherwise afford education are left with few options in life. Options that certainly do not beneficial to the state and their tax payers.

Even with costs growing and tuition fee becoming part of our expectations, the sign that says FREE EDUCATION can mean many things. Free education from the strangling choke hold that is not only making it significantly more expensive to go to a public college (UCs the last yearly tuition hike was 32%) but many of the institutions are not offering core classes that students need to graduate on time.
