No, it didn't 'baffle the world' Dawn. Aileen just was not really, willing to die, she just couldn't bear to live with LWOP either. It was just her hopeless attempt at saying, "I'm not really gone world, I'll be back." That old man she married did try to save her, but Aileen was out of control. It seems there was 'no saving' this woman. She was her own worse enemy.

I'm positive that "girlfriend" of hers knows a hell of a lot more than she says! I'm not too sure she wasn't involved in the killings herself.
