i have a few tips... practice with a basic icing mix-shortening and powder sugar. to make it thicker add more powder sugar. and one thing ive seen in some videos that are wrong is they do the peddles away from them instead of towards them. it maybe comfortable for them to do it that way but i found it easier to do the peddles towards yourself/myself..

PRACTICE!
Practice, practice practice. Did I mention practice? Trust me, the cake decorator I work with says she's been decorating cakes for over 30 years and she made her first "okay" rose a week in. She spent hours and hours making rose after rose after rose. She told me to keep my hands and icing cold. Thats key, the other key is work at eye level at first, then move your work lower so you look down on it. Don't expect to be an expert the first time around.
Have fun!
Your mistakes are edible!

Yes! I am actually really proud of how my roses look now, and I keep trying to add a video and I can't. I'm not sure if it's a linux issue, a firefox issue, or a youtube problem, but I just can't get my videos uploaded. Good luck w/your roses!

The second one looks like your tip was at too much of an angle. Roses are such a pain and unfortunately the only way to get better is by practice. Get a few bags of frosting made up, keep one in the fridge while you're working with the other one and keep practicing until you get it right. The videos on here (mine included) are of people who have made a ton of roses so of course it looks easy but again, practice is the key.

thank you so much for your input and advise! I'm brand new at this and (obviously) need all of the help I can get. :-)
