Jackie Fristacky is a councillor and former mayor of Yarra city in Melbourne.

it an inner city area of 70,000 residents, very close to the CBD . With the huge efforts of Jackie and others, the commuting rate on bikes has been raised in Yarra city to 9% of all trips to work. .

Now, that's not much compared with Europe where 30%, even 40 %, is not unknown, but for Australia, it's quite amazing .

I hope that other councils will find the achievement of Yarra and Jackie inspiring.

I love the cycle-traffic lights featured. A number of us have been trying to get similar infrastructure installed over here in the UK.

Hi Downfader, if you succeed in getting such lights, do a video report which i can then add to a compilation video.

This way we can bring together all the good things which hopefully the Jackie video will spark.

Actually I now live in Darwin, I haven't lived in Melbourne for about 14 years but your story reminded me of what can be great about Melbourne and judging by the film some things appear to have improved out of sight.
