This is an exercise called the Push Press. It is one of my favourite exercises because you really can put some real power behind it. It requires co-ordination and timing but once you get used to it you can really start to lift some serious weight. The main muscles activated in this exercise are the Quads, Glutes, Core, Lower back, Traps, Deltoids, Triceps. This is great for those looking to increase power but also great for burning fat.

  • Helpful video, thank you. What would you recommend as a better exercise for building upper-body strength: The push press or the military press?

  • @DavidWalkerJr27 for upper body strength i would recommend low rep (3-6) military press with a slow tempo on the eccentric phase because it is 100% upper body, whereas in the push press you use your legs to provide the power. i hope this helps

  • why does this video have 3 dislikes? I find this really helpful. Thanks.

And how much kg is that? 100? it's quite impressive then

  • @gricius stromfilip is right.. it is 50kg, i kept it light so i could slow it down to show technique. If i'm being picky though i'm not 100% happy with my technique. I plan to re-make these video's soon so keep checking. Thanks guys

  • @BoomPersonalTraining Can you recommend a video up on youtube now that shows perfect (or close to perfect) form? Been looking for a while and can't find one that I can definately say I want to mimic. Thanks for this vid!

  • @stromfilip well i do recommend my own video, i wouldn't post something i was unsure about. When i say im picky with my technique i mean if you look at my left shoulder at 49seconds, it is slightly more rasied then the right one. For me though this would indicate muscular imbalances around the shoulder girdle. This is why it is good to video your own technique from time to time because it allows you to see things that you might miss when looking in the mirror during training.
