Japan's recent disasters only serve to remind us of the economic realities of nuclear technology - one of the most dangerous government programs in the world. Sources: http://www.fdrurl.com/nuclear From Freedomain Radio - http://www.freedomainradio.com
just look at the development of computers for exmaple, you know when that started and who funded it ? how many decades had past before the technology was mature and could be produced for profit ? What private company would have poored all these billions into research waiting 25 years for a possible return on investment ?

Ok so Stef claims there would be no investment in space technology and nuclear technology in the private sector, hmm ok, now just assume there is another big bad state out there that has something like DARPA, and you in the tech business in your libertarian region and you got to compete with a tech company sponsored by DARPA , how you think that would work out ?

@ShoutingQuietly they estimate 14000 deaths linked to Fukushima just in the US. You can't possibly think no one died in Japan and listening to govt controlled media will surely mislead you. Maybe you're part of it? Many more will die as a result of the Fukushima disaster in the next few decades and unless something is done to repair/shut down many US reactors, the same thing happening in the US is only a matter of time.

The only problem is that a coal plant explosion is significantly more harmful than any nuclear accident short of a Chernobyl style meltdown (which isn't close to remotely possible with western safety systems, even more so with modern reactor technology.) The chance of explosion is next to nothing when properly built (which Chernobyl was not), and when you built a nuclear reactor in a common sense area (not in the freaking ring of fire) it's perfectly safe. Would't exist without gov't though.

I have trouble accepting the testimony before congress of the Westinghouse Executive on the cost of a nuclear power plant. What else would he say, other than that these subsidies are absolutely indispensable for the development of nuclear power.
