This video is not a disproof of god in general. It does however disprove a common view of god, i.e. the Judeo-Christian version.

  • @DaToNyOyO It's different, because humans aren't omniscient, they can't predict what's gonna happen. According to quantum science, anything can happen at any time in the universe.

God, however, IS omniscient, so he knows EVERYTHING that's gonna happen.

  • @DaToNyOyO Clearly they do. People always surprise you. Tastes change :P Easy. Give me another.

  • Here's a brain twizzler for you:

Let's assume you have to buy a present for someone. You know them really, really, well and you buy something you know they'll love. They do love it. Do they have free will?

You're in a relationship with someone for a few years. You come to know each other really, really, well. You can know almost always what their answer will be to almost any question. You can predict with almost perfect certainty what they will say or do. Do they have free will?

    Do you see?

  • @AaronPatrickLeeMusic We can't be determining the future since our actions apparently are already planned out with only one possible outcome.

God can't determine the future either since his actions are also predetermined (given that god has perfect knowledge of past, present and future that can't change, he would also be bound on a certain path)

This implies that freewill can't coexist with an all knowing creature.

  • @phpeni "If God sees the future, that means that the future is determined." Sure, but then the question becomes, "who is determining the future?" In my position where I'm trying to show that free will and omniscience could logically coexist, I would say that the future is contingent (or determined if you prefer that phrase) by creatures with free will exercising their capacity to make choices. God just sees those choices and the results they will produce in his eternal "now".

  • @AaronPatrickLeeMusic Still, if god sees the future that means that the future is determined. Under this assumption I can have an illusion of free will, but all my actions and thoughts will be predetermined.

  • @phpeni I could have worded my earlier comments better, but I think a reiteration of God's experience of time contrasted with our sense of time will help. It's probably a misnomer for me to use "prediction" since God is outside of time and sees our past, present, and future simultaneously. God's knowledge of future events may seem like "predictions", but that misconception (which I held earlier) can be resolved by understanding the discrepancy between human and divine experience of time.

  • @AaronPatrickLeeMusic God has to know everything (past, present, future) at all times in order to be all knowing. If god was able to predict our little conversation at the beginning of time with all the information available back then, that would imply a 100% deterministic universe.

  • @phpeni I do not think that is the case. He has perfect information to see what you will choose.

  • @AaronPatrickLeeMusic So god is calculating the future based on perfect information? If this is the case it proves "hard" determinism is true and free will goes out the window.
