On August 10th I had a 3cm acoustic neuroma removed by the translabyrinthine procedure. After seeing other AN patients video's, I felt compelled to post my story.

  • I'm still waiting on an appointment with the surgeon, but I think they want to go for the surgery as opposed to the gamma knife. I'm not completely sure of all the terms yet. I am still learning. Yours was removed by surgery, correct? How long were you out of commission? I want to go back to work as soon as possible. What's a reasonable timeframe, in your opinion? Do you have a blog or facebook?

  • @saijoey No blog or facebook, sorry. I'm still out of work. It's only been 5 weeks today. I'm drving again (short distances), and making sure I walk everyday. I go back to LA tomorrow to have a follow up check up to make sure everything is as it should be.The doctors will judge by your recovery when you can go back to work. The biggest thing is not to rush it. It's quite a learning experience when it comes to balancing with only one side working. Where are you planning to have it done?

  • Thank you for this video. It's sooooo nice to see/hear how well you are doing. I'm so scared. I was diagnosed two weeks ago and it's 9mm x 4mm. I'm still in consultations with surgeons, insurance, etc. Do you have a blog? How are you doing now???

  • @saijoey

Thanks for the comment! I'm doing great by just taking it day to day. Have you decided on what route you're going to take, surgery, gamma knife?

  • Thank you for posting your story. My friend's son Danny is 14 and is having his acoustic adenoma removed tomorrow by Dr Friedman. We are praying it all goes well. You look great and your video gives me so much hope for our dear friend Danny. Please continue to post your progress. Thank God you are ok. Thanks!!

  • I have two planned trips between now and the end of October (one is a business trip) that I would like to complete and then I will be ready for surgery. So probably in November. I've lost 80% of my left side hearing and I am getting more dizzy, so the sooner the better. I'm sad to hear you won't get your hearing back. I hope to keep what hearing I do have in my left ear and also hoping for no facial problems. Hope is all I have though. Please check back in and let us know how your check up goes.
