  • it doesn't work on LCD screens... at least for me.

  • @ykliu1995 yes, it'll only work on CRTs because these use electron beams that can be deflected by magnetic fields.

    The TV tries to display an all blue image, but the electrons don't always hit the blue sub-pixels because the magnet pulls them a little bit off their trajectories, so they hit other colors, hence rainbows.

  • Probably upcoming phones will have such a lot of magnetic field sensors that there's an app to recreate these effects. Personally, I've arrived at the point where I explain to younger people that digital cameras once had films that needed to be developed, and no displays.
