The point is to demonstrate HOW it is done. The proof THAT it was done is available by visiting the links in the info section.

So how did the networks do it using the live helicopter feed? How did they use moving camera shots, implant a CGI plane, and perfectly sync the plane up to hit the building as soon as the planted explosives went off?

Anybody can take pre-existing footage and manipulate it. It's not that hard considering you can do it. To set up a live CGI render with precise timing on a predetermined path despite unpredictable camera motion is not possible with current technology, much less 2001 technology.
