The Stumptown Cloggers were born in about 1982. Their first meetings were held in someone's home until they realized that if they continued practicing there, they were going to wear out the rug, so they moved their group to a building downtown where they held practices once a week. "Few of us stuck with it to the bitter end. I stayed with it because I was having so much fun. They were a good group. We had a good time. We were silly but we got the job done", said Betty Stewart, long time Portland clogger and contra dancer. Before their split in the mid 1990's, the Stumptown Cloggers could list the Oregon State Fair, Folklife, old rodeos and many other folk events on their resumé.
