This is how I fixed my 30gb Zune (1st generation). It's not a frozen Zune like other people have experienced. It'll just restart over and over and it won't boot up. So replace the battery. I bought a replacement battery on ebay for $8. Hope this helps someone.

Edit: Before buying the new battery, I first tried unplugging the original battery for 1 minute and then plugging it back in, in the hope that it would reset the zune, but that didn't work for me. These 1st generation zunes are so old that they need new batteries after many years of recharging and discharging after regular daily use. It seems that if the battery goes bad, then it won't allow the zune to boot up.

  • @klinsblue Yes, I agree with you. In my experience, iPods have been more reliable than others that I've owned. I've liked other brands, even the Zune HD, but you can do so much more with an iPod touch. More expensive, but very useful. I too want the other brands to step up their usefulness.

  • Best Solution to a broken Zune... buy an iPod.

  • @klinsblue That is one way to go. But iPods do break down too, although not as often.

  • @ohn9ne I'm glad you were able to fix it yourself and save yourself some money. Pass on this fix to anyone who needs it. Thanks for watching!

  • @justintimeTM It sounds like its the battery. When you plug it in, it's drawing power from your computer. But it seems your battery won't hold any charge, so when you disconnect, it shuts down. Unfortunately replacing the battery on the 2nd generation zunes is more difficult. It involves soldering it on.

  • Okay, okay, I have the same exact zune but I have a different problem, when I try to connect it to my PC, all it does is just go to the restores screen(ZUNE) and It just says "2: Onyour PC, open the Zune software and restore the Zune device frimware.: I tried to do that 10 times now, and those updates have been failing annd saying, Zune update.....ERROR??? What do I do?

  • @babyhomiechego I've never seen this problem. Maybe deleting the content and the firmware on the Zune would help? To delete everything on the Zune including the firmware you press and HOLD the back button + the center black button + the left button that is part of the black center button. You hold all 3 of these buttons and it will delete EVERYTHING including the firmware. Maybe you can try this and start over since nothing else is working.

  • @deadgodanubis overall I've found them to be more reliable, which is a shame because I hate having to over pay for a device just because of a brand name. There's some really nice mp3 players as well, but when functionality comes into play Apple is still ahead at this point. I'm ready for the day where a sandisk/sony/coby/etc player is just as useful, for the cheaper prices they offer.

  • worked perfectly thank you so much!!!! getting the case back on was a little tricky but if you put the side with the headphone jack on first it snaps right in

  • my zune 4g stays on only when plugged in. As soon as I unplug it; lights out and it wont turn on. Any one have advice about that??

  • @babyhomiechego then i removed the black plastic thing at the bottom and reconnected it to only find out it was out of power with the USB connecter not reaching it w/ the plastic at the bottom.

  • @Shigurei I tried it doesn;t work.....
