The Retrode (was: snega2usb) is a USB reader for 16-bit video game cartridges. This is a video showcasing some of the new features: support for Sega Genesis games and battery-backed Super Nintendo savegames.

You will find that I am having trouble getting two of the games to run (Zelda and Yoshi's Island). These cartridges are in really bad shape; they wouldn't even boot on the console. As always, wearing off the oxide/gunk layer by repeated re-insertion helps. The final version of the Retrode comes with proper connectors that are made especially for video games.

  • I want to make a Starfox 2 cartridge with this.

  • @SuperMario811 How so?

  • heh, "number sixty-nine, whatever that means in this case."

  • @zerothis23 Yeah, I just don't like RPGs :)(

  • I have a question can you put home brew games on a cartage with that? or is it read only memory?

  • @Bob0p Regular carts are read-only; you'd need a flash cart for that. They usually come with a programmer on their own.

  • @JSBasss Oh yeah, I forgot, these are Read-Only. I probably have to find an extremely rare SD cartridge with SFX2 or solder a blank ROM on one.

  • @JSBasss so is this how emulator roms are made?

  • @JSBasss dam those things are expensive.

  • @JSBasss He's talking about modern civil courts... they're that ridiculous.
