The ingots are burning red
I'm working time and a half
Tomorrow I'll stay in bed,
what a hell it is, what a life

I burn my fingers, why don't you
laugh with the rest who know it well
I tripped and then I fell for
the beauty of Wynona

At night I toss and I turn
and I try and dial your number
It's changed and God only knows
where you been since last December

Where you been with that twisted smile
throwing your mother in the pond
Break him easy when he go down for
the beauty of Wynona

Girls they skip double dutch
They saw you go, mama gone
Our prayers don't mean nothin' much
to the heart that cannot be won

Tangled in your fishing net
right here in my own bed
Drowning in the tears I shed for
the beauty of Wynona

  • I was lucky enough to meet him backstage at a concert he did at a small cafe in SF about 7 years ago. My knees were shaking, I was so in love with him and his music and influence, his mind and soul. He was beautiful and gracious and I committed the ultimate fan stupidity. I asked him to sign my Beauty of Winona cd and he obliged me. I was high for a week over this.

  • @Gfdvsrhsehbfrf Nice story, thanks for sharing with us. I've seen him 3 times live, and I did not do that. Cheers!

  • Wynona is that femme fatale, with her bloody lips of red and the perfect crooked smile. The sound of his guitar reveals her beautiful poison. I could close my eyes and imagine the perfect video to the song. That is how vivid Lanois is able to paint a picture with the wild notes of his guitar and the poetry in his lyrics. I just love it.

  • Beautiful description, I'm pretty sure many of us have our own pictures while listening to this song.

  • sorry dude :S my names wynona too... i broke his heart :S im going to hell! :')

  • @Fean0r86

Nah, it's a Jazzmaster with Jazzmaster pickups (different from P90 soapbars though they look similar)

  • Loved this for ages - when you hear it you realise the inevitability of him working with Neil Young - only question is, why didn't it happen sooner?

  • @IvyBedouin9 Yes, Lanois is right up there with Hendrix and Eno when it comes to very visceral artists...

  • The more I listen to Daniel Lanois the more his influence comes out in all of Dave's music. While most people might not I agree, I believe their energies are very similar. Even though their voices are very different, I notice Dave attempting a lot of vocal techniques that Lanois patented.

  • @Iodine74 the guitar is a fender jaguar with soap-bar pickups. the amp is a fender vibro i think . as far as fx go, i think he just uses a fuzz and delay/reverb

  • you misunderstood me! I know that Daniel is a famous producer of course. What I meant was Daniel performs live so great, not only in his studio CDs. Clear? Compris?

  • @bernie49

Excuse moi? He's not as a studio musician. He is one of the greatest producer; U2 Joshua Tree kicks them up, thanks to Danny and Brian. Emmylou Harris etc. You name it.

I've seen Danny 1993, His band was brilliant! Daryl and other guys, wonderful! They are real pro. Danny is far away from studio musician, what are you thinking there =( He's an real artist!
