    Cugat of course enjoyed a decades-spanning international career. Abbe was a nice Jewish girl who made a remarkable career as a Latin entertainer. She was enormously talented and made a fortune for RCA Victor records with her outstanding LPs. She often does not get the recognition she deserves a singer; as her recordings document, she is a top-level talent.

    And re: OH, CAPTAIN!: Of course nobody on the panel would be so tactless as to mention that Xavier Cugat was fired from that show during rehearsals. He was replaced in the cast by Edward Platt.

    It's amazing how they never seem to close in on the identity. They're ice cold until someone gets it seemingly out of nowhere.

    I had no idea that these two had any connection at all. I certainly never saw Abbe Lane until she was much older
