Lover Official Music Video - Tom Goss

"Lover" tells a story very rarely told: of the loss endured by partners of gay servicemembers who are killed in battle.

The video features Goss as the bereaved partner of an army soldier (DC actor Ben Horen) killed while on duty in Afghanistan. Among those playing medics who come to the aid of the wounded soldier are several former servicemembers who were discharged under the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy: Mike Almy, David Hall, and Danny Hernandez, all of whom are active members of SLDN. Keith Bryant stars as a fellow soldier.

The video, Goss's fourth, was filmed in DC and Alexandria. is being directed by DC residents Aram Vartian and Michael Key of DC; Dylan Comstock is director of photography.

This is a stunning and heartwrenching work; but it is only the beginning of tragedy and insult in America:

• The surviving partner (SP) may or may not be notified

• The SP may or may not be allowed to claim the body

• The SP may or may not be allowed to attend a military burial

• The SP will NOT receive survivor's benefits

• The SP could lose home and property, depending on the state

• The soldier's family can petition in court for half of all property and holdings

omg i stopped by again, to watch it, it just rips me apart, it makes me wish i had done more, it makes me proud to be gay, it makes me feel guilty, i could keep going on and on about all the emotions that it pulls out of me whether i want it to or not. You must be one hell of a guy to have wrote this put it too music. all of the love you give, and believe me it shows in your music. my goal to watch this and not cry, hasn't happen yet, maybe one day it will. thanks again for making me think/feel

There is NO support for the gay spouse of a gay soldier killed in action, no recognition of his grief, none of the ritual to help the pain that straight families get, none of the benefits that straight partners get. There will be NO equality until DOMA is destroyed and gays achieve equal rights. NOW do you understand?

Wow beautiful. I never thought that I would ever see this, a day were those who fight for our freedom can live freely themselves. Let alone a song honoring the pain left behind in the loss. Thank you for this song Tom. I'm more than sure that this bit of music you have shared with the world had helped at least one person out there barely holding on.
