@nevermind1993 Just wiki Ailuridae. They're not related to panda's or racoons at all, but the sole representative of their own family. "Red Pandas have no close living relatives, and their nearest fossil ancestors, Parailurus, lived 3-4 million years ago". Of course you were partially right, old research used to suggest they were related to raccoon's or had them placed in the bear family.

Actually, they're neither. I'm not sure what zoology class you flunked out of, but they are now officially classified as their own family, called Ailuridae - which makes the preservation and repopulation of them critical.

Do not let his cute demeanor fool you, red pandas are godless killing machines. He may look like he's just playing acrobat on those tree branches, but he's actually sizing up the camera guy and looking for weaknesses. You see, red pandas do not tolerate anyone wishing to capture them on film. If it wasn't for his caged enclosure, he would have bitten several faces off.

I remember going to the National Zoo in 1989 in DC. I look up in a tree and see this adorable face. It was a red panda.
