  • 17.5 mw ? for the same space I could get a 2 gigawat nuclear reactor.

  • Actually you need 100s of square kilometres for a uranium mine, transportation system processing system, reactor and associated water cooling and then disposal (safe or other wise) Nuclear cycle takes up a lot of space. -- Research the Ranger Uranium Mine which has a massive tailings dam which overflows over 100s of square kilometres.

Also you have to get a Nuclear Reactor built. Areva can't do it in Finland. They won't commit on a date and they failed their 2008 date.

  • @TheFluffyDuck

The facts are that in the west it takes 10-19 years and in China with less

emphasis on security, safety and environmental controls the plants still

    take 7.5 years to build.

While Wind and Solar Thermal plants take 2-5 years from Planning to

construct, and in China Wind Power plants are taking just 12 months.

  • @TheFluffyDuck Areva the world's biggest nuclear company can't seem to manage to a nuclear plant built in Finland. (Supposed to be finished in 2008 and now they

can't even say when it will be handed over to TVO).

Search Google: "Siemens Expects Further Delay In Finnish Reactor Construction"

For Wall Street Journal article about this

And Areva knows the complications and problems with heavily subsidised

nuclear and that's why they're getting out of nuclear and into Wind

    and Solar Thermal

  • @beyondzeroemissions Good response. Also need to consider all of the input costs which are way higher for a nuclear plant

  • absolutely fantastic technology. Wow, i hope we get enough of these going very soon though.

  • well, then we can make toys and tools of the oil instead of just burning it ... and what about electrical cars?

It kind of has come full circle, the Egyptians where right, and we have to start worship the sun again haha! The future looks so bright the it would be stupid not to start manufacturing shades ... ; )
