The Soma Groove is one of the most beloved frames of no-nonsense mountain bike riders for the past several years. So, when Soma set out to release a 26" alternative to its "groovy" beginnings, the company stuck with it's tried and true, steel is real roots but in a package all it's own. The Soma Analog does not feature any fancy tube shapes, oversized this or oversized that. And while other companies like to flaunt the technology that it took to build their newest offerings; Soma's search was to bring out the heart and soul of a pristinely smooth handling, straight forward and finely crafted frame.
The Analog starts with a Tange Prestige, double-butted and heat-treated chassis framed in a slightly more modern geometry that allows for a longer travel, 100mm fork and bigger, gnarlier trail riding capabilities. The steel tubing and S-bend seatstays make for a very smooth but predictably tracking hardtail ride that will surely compliment the longer travel front end. Probably the most noticeable difference is the Analog's use of the elegant Tange stainless steel Sliding Dropout which makes for a highly adjustable single-speed or geared setup.
Soma has been known for very neutral, subdued paint schematics in models past like Baja, Cappuchino and Ivory - not with the Analog. The Analog comes in a color that Soma likes to call: Pacific Blue. It is bright, it is bold and it sparkles.
Tong-ay, Tung-ay, Tang-ah, Tanj...I've heard it said dozens of ways growing up in shops. I'll note your preference for future reviews on Tanje tubed frames. ;)
