very nice setup, could you tell us your total cost for the system? Im thinking of doing somthing similar, if I can get my hands on a InfiniTV4 card.

I had a hard drive laying around but you can build this for sub 500 bucks.

@kkeithan - have you added a blu-ray drive yet? does it work fine without a separate video card? That is the same set up I'm looking forward to build with a blu-ray drive, but that is my only hesitation, unable to determine if 1080p playback will lag?

No Bluray drive yet. Maybe I will order one for Christmas. I am streaming 1080p content from the drobo in my basement which has no lag what so ever.

Not sure why you think this is a waste. Can you explain?
I'm using 1Gb ethernet to stream my movies to the HTPC and don't have any current plans on using USB3, but I am glad it was included. The i3 should be plenty fast enough to use USB3...
