Marosvasarhely/Targu Mures is one of the great cities of Transylvania. Both the Hungarian and the Romanian name for this city translate to Maros (River) Marketplace. Our first visit to this beautiful and historic city was September 14th, 2007, with cousin Carol. The original trip comprises the first third of this presentation. Our second visit was on August 6th, 2010, and is shown after 04:50 in the video. On our 2010 trip, we were very pleased to be accompanied by our good Magyar friend from YouTube. In 2007, we stayed at the charming "Ana Maria" Pensiunea, several views of which can be seen at the beginning of this video.

The music used in this video is the Dances of Marosszek by Zoltan Kodaly, beautifully performed by the Philharmonia Hungarica conducted by Antal Dorati. Kodaly's Marosszeki tancok were inspired by the folk music of this region. With one exception, all photographs were taken by me during our two visits to the "Marketplace on the Mures".

  • mkolibaba, officially you should put the Romanian version of the name first, and only after the Hungarian, German etc. Thank you.

  • @alex4ucj... Since I used the Romanian name first in my Cluj/Kolozsvar video, I thought it would only be fair to use the Hungarian name first for this video.

  • @mkolibaba The city is from Romania, therefore the name should be first in official name Targu Mures, the way is known international, only 2nd 3nd, in other ethnic names. The town is also Romanian majority by population. I don't think in US, they put the city names in Mexican version, and 2nd the English American version.

  • @alex4ucj... Your point is valid, but so is mine. I must be fair to all, including my Magyar and Szekely friends.

  • @HunVenture I searched like 5 minutes, and I already found a church build by Romanians in Hungary in Debrecen area, search Hajdúdorogi székesegyház, it was build by the Greek-Catholic Romanians in 1752-1772. Even in your region Romanians build something, still can't understand how you can be so outraged against Romanians who build historical things even in your county. Hope mkolibaba will be kind enough to ban you for commenting insults in your uncivilized manner again.

  • Igenis büszke vagyok a városomra!*****

  • 11:28 az ott a Bernadi szobor?hova volt helyezve?

  • @alex4ucj Marosvásárhely is a Hungarian city that was GIVEN to romania in Trianon Diktat. No one wanted to be part of romania at the time when 98% of Marosvásárhely was Hungarian!

  • @alex4ucj Marosvásárhely had a Hungarian majority for centuries, only after romanians were brought in by the truckload from out of Transylvania has it become artificially full of romanians who are not the original population of Marosvásárhely.

Marosvásárhely was named by force as targu mures after it was GIVEN to romania in Trianon Diktat!

  • @AGTothful P.S.

Because of this attitude you lost Transylvania. Your arrogance made you loose Transylvania, you could not stand the fact that the Romanians were more numerous here, and you tried to assimilate them (the laws of assimilation of Huszar Antal in 1907 just to make an example). And you now you behave like a puny nation, cursing and swearing everyone that opposes you!

  • Hungarians, unfortunatly, never understood to make good politics (minority-friendly politics)...they did not think that one day the wheel of fortune might turn....it turned in 1918...it would be okay with most of TransylvanianHungarians (who should not be confound with HungaryHungarians!!!) to be ruled by Romanians...only nowadays the politicians make no politics, they make genocide...

We should meet one day...and drink a beer in Kolzsvar :)

  • @alex4ucj Wise spoken, my friend....let me call you this way...Now, some hours ago, I realized you are not one of the idiot, brainwashed Romanians, who destroy this country *as seen on TV (you might be not the wisest...-- but I myself need some more knowledge too, need to learn some more of historical facts ). Many TransylvanianHungarians do not like RMDSZ neither but they seem to be the only ones to "defend" the hung.minority (of course, they steal as much as any Romanian politician)

  • @AGTothful If you read some history about Romanian politics in Transylvania in the middle 19 century, you would find out that Romanians and Saxons wanted to create here a sort of "Switzerland" together with Hungarians. But the Transylvanian Memorand 1892 problem where Hungarians aggressively arrested innocent people sealed this from ever happening and after that you know what happened, 1 December 1918, important moment.
