The Rights & Democracy Delegation at Huron University College, with Amnesty International presented the Hon. John McKay, Member of Parliament and Privy Council on February 3rd, 2010 at Huron University College. Mr. McKay spoke to students about Private Members Bill C-300 and the future of Canadian corporate responsibility. Mr. McKay introduced Private Members Bill C-300 on February 9, 2009. The Bill seeks to promote responsible environmental practices and international human rights standards on the part of Canadian mining, oil and gas corporations in developing countries. The purpose of this Act is to ensure that corporations engaged in mining, oil or gas activities and receiving support from the Government of Canada act in a manner consistent with international environmental best practices and with Canadas commitments to international human rights standards.
