Filmed in Tuscany in the summer of 2007, this strange level crossing design includes a cast iron bell and a propeller.
Just when you think the train must be coming, a last-minute car sneaks under the barriers. That's Italy, where a red traffic light seems to mean 'a warning' :)

  • why is there a spinner for the bell?.

  • @ricofojas2011 It's a visual signal, not commonly seen in Europe (I only saw it in Italy)

Check out 'Wigwag' for the US version, which supposedly mimicks an engineer's red lantern swung as a warning.

But it has little effect in Italy :) where 'Red' is just 'a warning'. Well, that's my theory, after observing its effects.

  • What do the spinning things mean?

  • @steamtrain6000 It's a further warning for people to stop. Doesn't seem to have much effect in Italy....
