In 1997 the USA carried out seventy four executions, the highest number for four decades. Only China, Saudi Arabia, and Iran were known to have executed more prisoners.

I concur with you. It does require a certain amount of mental gymnastics to comprehend the "official" stance in death penalty states. 'Life is sacred. Since you murdered this person, we're going to kill you,' What did Ghandi say? An eye for an eye makes the world go blind... or something like that.

@huns24 : That wasn't what I was going for. This wasn't so much a value judgment as much as it was an attempt to get people to reflect upon their own subjective beliefs. When presenting the images I tried to be as impartial as is possible. I certainly don't think America is "bad,"

@huns24 but its sure a hell a lot better than places like China. Now if they just got rid o that "suddenly drive-by'd to death" in hoods/schools... it'll be a heaven on Earth. Well, still got corrupt politicians, yet its a better than someplaces! cost of living! big salaries! freedom! Respect for privacy (trust me there are a lot of worse places). And still got retards and hotheaded Jesusfreaks(those 2 things shouldnt mix!)

Punishment is just a method to hope one can correct someone, to make them see. That's what it is supposed to be, but as they say: "when the wise points at the moon, the fool looks at the finger." Many ppl are so hyped up about making sure someone is punished when "wrongs" are done.

And I think scary punishments are for scaring the masses to keep in line. Though, when some Americans abhor & are fighting against capital punishment, China's a haven for torturers and their trade..& no one objects.

If Christianity was some rural tribal religion it wouldn't have so much "persuasiveness." Just like 2000 yrs ago. It's very popular globally today, just like Buddhism was in the East (and yet holds some power) 1 century ago.

Anyway, I believe punishment is just a method for correction, not the correction itself. Ppl, Bloodthirsty lot, just like Christians and their Bible...

it was the biggest mistake in the history for the world leaders to give the UN membership and the WTO membership to CHINA.

They bear the most cruel, barbaric and species like attitude toward humanity.

They are too far to be Civilized. I wish they would have been removed from the world community.
