Bill, how in the world do you get the outer skin off of the neck? A couple weeks ago we got a bunch of Gapers at Charleston on a -2 foot tide. We worked for hours scraping, peeling, etc trying to find a good way to clean the outside of the neck. Though our technique definitely needs improvement, they were delicious! I would love to see a video how to clean a Gaper.
@Chrissers2010 Once you are home place the clams in a bucket and cover with slightly warm tap water and set the bucket in the sun for 4 hours. The clams will stretch out their necks while dieing. The brown skin will peel off easily. I recommend purchasing my book, Oregon’s Clams for complete information on digging bay clams and razor clams. Visit my website for more information. Good luck. Bill
