No regional accent? I'm from Adelaide and we definitely pronounce quite a few words differently to the eastern states, like graph, dance, castle, balcony, pool, school. In Adelaide the accent is closer to the cultivated Australian accent (except in the outer suburbs) maybe its because the colony was established by free British settlers initially or the large amount of post war British immigrants that came to Adelaide that left us more inclined to retain that tie to the UK

@grapisavillain Not at all.

@mudchair16 And Sydney having a more proper accent is less laughable is it?

@Jessicaisrealawesome Are you kidding? Ever been to Adelaide. I'm telling you now, no one speaks like that in Melbourne.

psh, there's no regional accents. It just depends how you were raised, what school you went to etc. I say castle with the long a, and dance with the short a, so there's no set way in which you pronounce things.

so true about the elocution thing..
my grandma was a farmer's daughter who grew up in country victoria but she basically sounds like an old british lady cause she was obsessed with empire and trained to be an elocution teacher herself.
"Put another dingo on the barbie."
This is gold.
