hypnosis is much safer compared to most anesthetics not only is there much less blood, but the healing process is usually quicker. Before chemical anesthetics were the standard, hypnosis was used. Luckily there is a renewed interest in the medical applications of hypnosis, The event that transpired in 'Scrubs' is of course highly unlikely as you have to be trained in medical hypnosis before you would even be allowed in the ER or even a surgical room where that is happening.
