University College, the adult, evening and continuing education division in Arts & Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis, hosted "The Future of Sports," a panel discussion featuring Bob Costas, Bill James, Joe Posnanski, Gerald Early, and Michael MacCambridge, Nov. 29 in Graham Chapel on the university's Danforth Campus.
@knightschwartz By the way, Early has already said a number of things I'd deem "interesting" in regard to boxing: He historicizes its marginality, situates its intermittent popularity, predicts its permanence & talks about the corrosive effect of greed w/in it.
That might not interest you, but it interests me (seems to interest Costas too), so your original criticism is subjective, even marginal...
Basically, I'm saying you're kind of an ass & I enjoy exposing that

@knightschwartz And by the way, buddy, I'm listening to the panel discussion now and your man, Costas, is very much in favor Title IX, which might fall under your umbrella of "PC bs". In fact, seems like most of the other (white) panelists are under that evil umbrella, too... Shudder... Maybe it's just you who has the problem.
Early seems basically to re-state this "PC bs", which makes your singling out of him (for reasons I've already shown to be inaccurate), at the least, curious.

@knightschwartz Costas has always annoyed me. He affects an intellectual pose in an anti-intellectual environment where few of his peers have basic reasoning ability (see, sports talk radio). It's not hard to appear smart in such a stupid world.
Anyway, to finish you off, no Early is not on the panel b/c he is black, he is,as stated, on the panel b/c it takes place at his university. His relative familiarity w/ the subject & willingness to participate gives the host school a voice on the panel

@knightschwartz B/c black people are worthless, right? Same for women, right?
I'm about to watch this panel and thus have yet to determine whether Early says anything of note or not, but I can tell you that Early is an accomplished literary and music scholar and has written well about boxing in the past..
I inherently dislike your little needling presumptions: For example, that there aren't women and minorities who wouldn't be more fit for the panel than Costas, James, Posnanski, etc.

Gerald Early says "they would say 'why isn't there a women?' on this panel and they'd be right". No they'd be wrong. So sick of PC bs. He doesn't say anything intresting but they need a black guy on the panel ofcourse.

Costas is so humble he looked very uncomfortable when he was introduced.
